[13] I accepted now

[Step 13] I accepted now

The heart of the suggested steps to Peace & Acceptance is contained in these steps describing the experience of grieving widows and widowers.

Meetings focus on working through the steps, often in a repeating pattern as more learning is revealed to us on our journey. There is often no linear progression.

And the final step in this process is acceptance of now, understanding that now, this exquisite moment, disappears almost as it comes into being. And in this exquisite moment, we don’t compare to the past because that can cause stress and we don’t compare to the future because that can cause stress. We just accept this moment right now, not comparing in any way at all to the past or to the future.

We accept this moment right now as the joyous moment that we are living in, connected to the world around us, connected to the love that we have for ourselves. Connected to everything that is happening to us, this moment is absolutely beautiful and all that ever exists is this moment.

That’s all there is.

This moment is all we have.

… and as soon as we’ve recognized this moment, this moment has gone and it’s another moment.

This moment, that’s all we have in life, just this moment… and this moment is to be celebrated with joy in peace and love and acceptance.

Thinking prompts for this step

If you wish you may find it helpful to use these as prompts to guide your thinking when it’s your turn to share during any group meeting.

  • Can you notice that if you don’t compare this moment to either the past or future that there is no stress? (and that includes 1 second ago as the past and the next second as the future)
  • What changes will you make in your life to notice now?
